The two most famous examples of Chinese New Year’s Eve sex crimes of 2006 also took place on Feb. 15 (Feb. 14 in Taiwan), although in China the tradition of drinking booze on any given day is in fact quite strong and hence much more popular than on the Taiwanese side.
According to the police, a man from Guangzhou, Jiangsu province, was arrested for killing his girlfriend, a 21-year-old university student called Wen-liang, and their unborn child by slitting her throat. Wen-liang’s father reportedly had come home to collect his daughter from the hospital when the murder took hold. Police were already worried that Wen-liang, because of the young age of her boyfriend (the man was 24), might have been in a romantic relationship with him, so they decided to investigate. The boyfriend confessed, and police then discovered the woman’s bloodstained dress near the crime scene.
The case took the internet by storm, as this was the first such case to take the form of murder as a party trick. The two were accused of drinking alcohol on the 14th and 14th February of the same year, and as the two are related, the pair are generally named Wen-xia and Wei-sheng respectively, though in Taiwan they are referred to by the surname Wu-chiao, the character for two.

But before they could announce that anything was wrong with Wen-xia, he got in over his head. A man who apparently was his girlfriend’s older brother had arrived on the scene. It was he, and in the next few days he got drunk and sexually assaulted Wen-xia. The police initially believed the elder brother to be Wen-xi, but later they were convinced by medical experts that their son was Wen-xia. The suspect then confessed to the crime.
Wen-Xi told officers what he had done to Wen-Liang: “I drank two bottles of liquor; I then asked Wen-Liang for a kiss while she was asleep,” he reportedly said. Wen-Xi’s crime has now been described by local media as “rape with blood”.
Police said Wen-Xi and Wen-
